Ready to experience the majesty of nature from a two story log cabin? Baptiste is a great home-base from which to explore Glacier National Park; Flathead National Forest and River; Great Bear Wilderness; Bob Marshall Wilderness; Hungry Horse Reservoir; Flathead Lake (the largest natural freshwater lake in the west). Baptiste is one of 7 cabin rentals at Abbott Valley - whose private land makes up 260 acres!
Inside a large kitchen and bath have been added. Just outside is the South Abbott Creek whose slow moving waters meander through the vast meadows surrounding Baptiste Cabin.
However you fill your days, return to your home away from home and be greeted by a picturesque homestead, horses and cattle. Evening fires in the fire pit are a big part of cabin time here as the night sky becomes studded with stars.
Sleeping arrangement: The main floor has a living area with a futon couch and a bedroom with a queen bed. The enclosed upper loft has two double futons and looks out over the meadow and Columbia and Teakettle Mountains which form picturesque Bad Rock Canyon.
The Baptiste cabin and deck face the beautiful north meadow and a historic log barn. This cabin was named after a French-Canadian trapper ‘Baptiste’ who stayed here. The cabins and barn are original hand-built homestead buildings which date back to 1910.
You might run into members of our family working on the ranch, but our homes are not close to the cabins. After the 4th of July we hay all of the meadows prior to moving in the cattle and horses. We are always willing to extend our local knowledge because you should live like a local during your stay.
From the cabin window you might see elk crossing the field or deer in the meadow. Look for all kinds of tracks if you head out for an early morning trek to the beaver ponds. It’s rewarding to be off the beaten path and close to attractions: Fishing, cycling, 9 golf courses, horseback riding, boating, canoeing & kayaking, river rafting, birding and nature photography.
Nearby is where the adventure kicks in: Glacier National Park is awesome: With over 700 miles of trails, Glacier is a hiker's paradise. It's called the "The Crown Jewel of the Continent" and you will know why after travelling the "Going-to-the-Sun" highway. Biking, hiking, boating, guided tours, and ranger talks. Ask us about what weather to expect, what to do with your pet, and what's available during different times of the year. Don’t miss the Hungry Horse Reservoir, a huge lake behind Hungry Horse dam with some of the best sights in northwest Montana.
The National Bison Range and Swan Valley are worth the drive.
