If privacy and extra space are on your vacation wish-list, then our 1400 sq. ft. hand-hewn Cottonwood log cabin is for you. It's very close to the river too - about two-tenths of a mile away, just an easy stroll across the lush meadow. Ask us about gold panning - you may as well live like a local! That could mean white-water rafting trips on the Salmon and Bitterroot rivers too. Glacier National Park is a scenic 4 hours away; Yellowstone National Park is 6 hours away.
This cabin is great for 2 couples, or 8 people total if you use the queen sleeper sofa and twin rollaway beds. Weddings and Honeymoons are special at the Ranch.
Sleeping arrangement: Bedroom on main level with either a king bed or two twin beds; loft bedroom with either a king bed or two twin beds and 2 rollaways.
The Cottonwood cabin has a washer and dryer and iron in the laundry room. Guests can go to the Homestead cabin for TV and Wifi.
It has a small creek running next to the cabin and a private campfire site nearby. Relax on the porch and soak in the amazing panoramic view! The Cottonwood also has a BBQ and laundry room. The wood stove in the living room is stocked with plenty of lodgepole pine, ponderosa pine, and Douglas fir firewood. Kitchen features a full-sized range, refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker, toaster, dishes, cookware, and utensils. Send us your grocery list and we will be happy to stock the kitchen before you arrive! We also have a high-chair and a Pack-n-Play if needed.
Paperback books are available in each bedroom, along with a closet and extra storage space.
The Cottonwood cabin offers a gorgeous view of the valley and surrounding mountains. Skalkaho Falls, just north of Darby, is one of western Montana’s “must sees.” The Bitterroot River offers over 76 miles of floatable river, from 6 miles south of Darby to Missoula and 100 miles of fishable river. When the snow flies, the Lost Trail Powder Mountain typically accumulates the most snow depth in Montana and has some of the best downhill slopes in the state. Two miles away is Painted Rocks Lake (swimming, boating, water skiing, and jet skiing).
Nearby are several good restaurants. What might you see near the cabin? Moose, elk, deer, eagles, waterfowl, songbirds, and more. That's no surprise because the Bitterroot National Forest surrounds the ranch. 1600 miles of hiking trails; Excellent walk-and-wade cutthroat trout fishing; Horseback trail riding; Mountain biking; Guided ATV riding - the list of adventures goes on.
Just down the road is the first ranger station ever built in the U.S.
